Shuttr is a hardware startup with a mission to reclaim one million hours of human connection by 2030. We develop physical tools designed to break compulsive smartphone habit loops and restore intentionality to mobile device usage.
Most current “digital wellness” solutions rely on software- based alerts or “nudges” that users quickly learn to ignore. As noted by experts, willpower is often insufficient to overcome the hallmark of digital addiction, and there is little empirical evidence that simple warning messages effectively change behavior.
The Shuttr Case is a physical phone cover equipped with a mechanical snap-on shield. By introducing a literal barrier between the user and their screen, we
utilize three core psychological mechanisms: physical friction, stimuli reduction, and the ritual of closure.
Shuttr is designed to render the phone an “inactive object”—comparable to a stapler or a coffee cup on a desk. Unlike restrictive software that “parents” the user by blocking apps, Shuttr focuses on user agency. It empowers the user to willfully
choose when to open the shutter for legitimate utility and when to “shut it down” to preserve their mental focus and emotional wellbeing.
By signing the Inspired Internet Pledge, Shuttr commits to creating technology that respects the boundaries of human attention and fosters a healthier, more intentional relationship with the digital world.

- Contribute to and/or actively engage in third-party research related to the Pledge principles
- Design user supports and safety mechanisms that are transparent, accessible, and effective
- Embed users’ mental health into success metrics within teams/departments
